Allantoin powder CAS 97-59-6, alias N-(2,5-dioxo-4-imidazolinimidinyl) urea, molecular formula C4H6N4O3, is a hydantoin derivative. Allantoin is mainly used in medicine, cosmetics and agriculture.
Pure Allantoin CAS 97-59-6 is a non-toxic, tasteless, non-irritating, non-allergenic white crystal, crystallized in water as single prism or colorless crystalline powder. It can be dissolved in hot water, hot alcohol and dilute sodium hydroxide solution. Slightly soluble in water and alcohol at room temperature, but hardly soluble in organic solvents such as ether and chloroform; its saturated aqueous solution (concentration 0.6%) is slightly acidic; the pH is 5.5. It is stable in an aqueous solution with a pH value of 4-9. It is also stable in non-aqueous solvents and dry air; it can be decomposed by boiling in a strong alkaline solution and sun exposure.
